Desperate for hulls, Grenadier took some ancient atmospheric fighters that were rotting in storage, upgraded the hulls, replaced the systems and sent them into space. No one really expected them to last, but they did. Continuously upgraded since then, the SSF has become the might of the Tibran Royal Navy. With Royal favouritism ensuring SSF pilots get first pick of the salvage crop it's going to stay that way.
